My Virtual Photo Album

Welcome to my more genealogy page! My Aben / Backhaus / Wischow family came from Pomerania, Prussia. The Wischow and Backhaus families are from around Naugard and Stargard near Stettin (today Poland). Not sure where exactly where in Prussia gr-gr grandad Ludwig Aben was born but most signs are pointng towards today's Mecklenburg-Vorpommern, Germany. Ludwig Aben showed up on the Michigan Census in 1890 as immigrating in 1850. The Pletschers came originally from Switzerland, chased out by Catholics because they were Mennonites. However, there are still many Pletscher families in Switzerland. The first Pletscher/Pletcher we know of who arrived ca. 1756 was a woman, Marie/Maria/Mary Pletscher with her two sons Samuel and Henry (name changed to Pletcher without the "s"). Even in today's Germany, it seems the Aben families are mostly in the north and Pletscher families are mostly in the south. Seems neither families settled in Frankfurt/Main -- so I have filled that gap!

Though the shrift is thick the entry for birtdate is 23.4. (April) and the baptism is 27. (April).)

A Ludwig Aben is buried in A1 plot 952, but I could not find exact grave/marker. Ludwig Aben's SON Ludwig is also buried in this cemetary.. Next to a Ludwig Aben is a Christina Krueger.
