In July 1999, my cousin Ann Miller Paterson writes: "My grandfather, Stan Johns came to Canada some time prior to 1909 looking for work (I have a membership Certificate from the 'Independent Order of Odd Fellows' dated May 1909 at Cobalt, Ontario.

He went back to England and married my grandmother and brought her to Giroux Lake, Cobalt, Ontario.

They moved to Timmins, Ont. Were they lived until 1952. When my Mom and Dad moved to Scarbourough, Ont. (a subburb of Toronto) my grandparents moved with us. In 1956 we moved to Port Credit, Ontario (now known as Mississaauga."

Hi Kathleen,

I know that Toledo has had a city directory for over 100 years and a

lot of other cities do to. I just thought that cities or towns in Cornwall

would have had the same thing. I gives a persons name, address and

occupation. The reply I received was that some counties had them and Kelly's

Directory for Cornwall for 1883 is in the process of being published on CD.

There are come in Truro library which can be photocopied. That is why I

asked on the list. But so far, no one has answered. I too am new to this

list. I have learned so much!

I think I have the info I need from the 1851 and 1881 census. Thanks.

Hi, Richard,

I don't know, but I suspect perhaps. My Cornish Mom is the only person

who

will eat one. She used to make one for Thanksgiving and Christmas, but

gave it up. We American children preferred pumpkin pie.

We also did not like her pasties, but now - 30 years later - I have

acquired

a taste for them and realize hers were the BEST!

When he was still a boy, the family moved to Bridport, Dorset, where his father became the manager of the local Co-op store.
