ONCE UPON A TIME… there was a women’s Air Force volleyball team that played together for 3 years.

They were good, but every year they just missed being champs, often by a few points.

In 1984 they knew it was their last chance, because they would PCS & go different ways.

Bungo and Dwight said while still on the court, if we wanted to win in 1985, we must start intensive trainng the following day…

GERMAN-WIDE CONTINENTAL SPORTS CONFRENCE (CSC) FINALS AT SPANGDAHLEM AIR BASE

Due to an illegal player on the Spangdahlem team – who beat us for runner-up – the last games had to be played over.

We had to play not only for runner-up against the team placed behind us, but also the winners – the dreaded super power and defending champs the “HAHN HAWKS”.

It was our SECOND chance so we decided to have fun and bought HAWAIIAN shorts – WE WON BOTH!  On to GREECE!

SCORES from IRAKLION AIR BASE, GREECE

By the time we arrived in Greece, we were so happy and did not care what happened next.  Besides, we only had SIX – correct 6 – players to start the tournee!

Two other would arrive later, but what were our survival chances against the best teams in Europe?

When the organizers asked Bungo when we wanted to practice our answer was: “Practice?  We want to shop, swim, drink Ouzo!”.  And we did.

And whom did we play for the finals? The dreaded super power and defending champs the “HAHN HAWKS”!
